Philly’s Pieces Of A Dream & Friends In The House

‘White Chocolate’ Chris Harris, Bongo man Alex Simon and Bowie’s George Graham on bass harmonize on some Billy Preston old skool rock.

WHUR’s Quiet Storm host Dan Brown introduced one of the DMV’s most popular bands to the packed house for the Saturday matinee at the DoubleTree ballroom. Most would have been satisfied with Philly’s most prolific funk band, but ‘PIECES’ brought a Trio of knockdown performers to the House!

Kim Waters brought an intense energy to open the Quiet storm segment.

First up was Kim Watters on his White Hot sax, followed by Nick Collionne’s unique brand of humor and Super Fly fashion. Nick offered to buy everyone a drink, “With 400 straws”!

Mad Bongo percussionist Alex Simon from Cleveland and guitarist Chris Harris back up music director James Lloyd.

But the unexpected highlight of the show was Eric Roberson’s vocal magic, including a rendition of “SUPERMAN” where he added his unique political perspective. “Building more prisons than schools, don’t mind if our boys act like fools!”

Independent Artisit Eric Roberson spreads his stylish wings and sings “SUPERMAN”!

But it was Pieces of a Dream’s unique Jam Session style of collaborative music that most attribute to their longevity. Celebrating their 40th anniversary and 23 CDs led by Curtis Hammond on drums and James K. Lloyd on keyboards and the Dukie Stick.

‘Nice Nick’ Collionne’s touch of humor and vocals was the bridge before intermission.

Giant sax man Tony Watkins round out the dynamic band along with ‘White Chocolate’  Chris Harris on guitar, Bowie resident George Graham on bass, Alex Simon on bongos.

James K. rocks his Dukie Stick to finish the show strong.

After two hours of collaboration with Kim Waters, Nick Collionne and Eric Roberson, they closed it out with a FUNK and rock segment that brought the women out of their seats to dance with Cedrick and James who serenaded the ladies with their sax and Dukie Sticks.

Giant sax man Tony Watkins, Jr. got the women out of their seats and dancing in the aisles!
Band leader and music director James K. rocks the Dukie Stick as audience members marvel at his stamina after a three hour matinee concert!
